Blisters: what finally worked
I tried every sock, every lacing trick and a drawer full of plasters before the obvious fix: boots that actually fit, bought in the afternoon when my feet had swollen.
The rest is maintenance. Thin liner socks under thicker ones, taping the two spots that always go before they go, and stopping to deal with a hot spot the moment I feel it rather than at the next break.
Since then, a blister is a sign I got lazy about one of those three things, not bad luck.
